The State of Cutter

Well, it's been a busy year already. I've been working on the largest code rollout in the history of our company. 250+ templates in all. I'm thankful that we hired another senior developer in Andy Matthews, a great guy whom I already knew from our Nashville ColdFusion User Group. Although the initial project was in support of a new project relating to statistical usage reporting, encompassing user and session management, we have also begun a full scale rewrite of our session and application initialization. No small task with our system, and something that will be further enhanced in the coming year as we finalize our migration from ColdFusion MX 6.1 to 7.

At the same time I finally took my certification exam, hence the new graphic above my About Pod. The exam was difficult, but could have been more so, were it not for the ColdFusion ExamBuster. I can't speak highly enough for this great tool for preparing for the exam. Well worth it's price.

And then there's Flex. I've come into possession of Flex Builder with Charting, but I have a unique setup at home where I have a remote server (in my closet) for development, without the ability of installing a server locally. Right now I just can't get Flex Builder to talk to ColdFusion for RemoteObject calls, but I haven't put more than an evening into it yet so I'll keep searching for the answer.

And, speaking of remote access, I am loving Apache in my home development environment, though I did roll back to 2.0x for Subversion hooks. Now, if I can just get Subversion access through Apache....Well, too many things at once. Plus, Aaron told us, at tonight's NCFUG meeting, that he'll be working on a four part blog postfest dealing with this exact type of setup. Said he has about 60 screen shots to incorporate. Look for those entries in a few weeks.

So, that's all for now. Finally back to working on the real estate site for my Mom. Plus, now that football season is over, I'm going to retool my Model-Glue:Unity Football Pool app to work with the latest version, then see if Joe might include it in the sample apps download (it will be available here as well).
